Netherlands Study: A featured scholarship is the Holland Scholarship for International Students.

The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science as well as Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences fund the Holland Scholarship. Excellent students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who are fully admitted to a full-time bachelor's degree at VHL are intended to use the grant as a financial contribution.

 The Holland Grant is not a full-tuition scholarship; it is worth €10,000. After receiving full admission to a full-time bachelor's degree at VHL with English as the primary language of instruction, the awarded candidates will receive the money in the first year of their studies.

Application specifications

You are a citizen of a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

You have been accepted into a full-time bachelor's degree at VHL that is taught in English.

You have never before attended a Dutch higher education institution.

Your knowledge of the English language is excellent (at least IELTS Academic test with an overall band score of 6.5 and no sub-scores below 5.5, or equivalent)

You received top academic honors during your prior studies.

You submit a personal statement (between 250 and 500 words) that contains the information listed below: Why do you want to follow a particular study plan? How can this program aid you in achieving your long-term professional objectives?

What long-term advantages might your degree have for the Netherlands and your native country?

Before the 1 June 2025 deadline for Holland Scholarship applications, you must be granted conditional admission to a full-time, English-taught bachelor program at VHL University of Applied Sciences.

How to Apply 

Between 1 November 2023 and 1 June 2024, applications for the Holland Scholarship for the academic year 2025–2026 will be accepted.

Please adhere to the steps below in order to apply:

  • Follow the standard online application procedures to submit your complete application to a full-time bachelor's degree at VHL that offers English as a language of instruction. Send in your application as soon as possible!
  • Keep an eye out for emails from the admissions team in your inbox. A conditional admission letter will be provided to you if you satisfy all entrance requirements for the bachelor program of your choice.
  • Use this online application to submit your Holland Scholarship application.

Please be aware that applications from students who have not been granted conditional admission to one of VHL's full-time bachelor programs taught in English will not be taken into consideration.

After the application deadline, the Holland Scholarship applicants will be carefully chosen by the Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences selection committee. Within six weeks of the deadline, all candidates will be informed of the results of the selection process. After the selected candidates have been fully admitted to the full-time bachelor's degree program with an English teaching component to which they have applied, the grant will be given out during the first year of studies. The candidates must join the Nuffic-run Dutch alumni network and contribute to the marketing of the Holland Scholarship.
