Italian studies begins in the academic year 2023–2024


Brief explanation: 

According to Law 288/55 and its subsequent amendments and additions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers grants in favor of foreign nationals not residing in Italy and Italian nationals residing abroad (IRE)* for the academic year 2023–2024 in order to promote international cultural, scientific, and technological cooperation, to advance the Italian language and culture, and to support Italy's economic system abroad. 

Italian higher education institutions, both public and legally recognized, offer grants to students who wish to pursue study, training, and/or research programs.

Scholarship amount and length: 

Tuition Fees Depending on the policies of each university, grant recipients may not be required to pay enrollment and tuition fees. The payment of enrollment fees is required for all Italian language and culture courses; exemptions are not given. 

Medical and Health Insurance 

For the term of the project, grantees will be protected by a health, medical, and accident insurance plan that MAECI has arranged. Events resulting from existing physical and psychological problems are not covered by insurance. 

Financial Grant Grantees will receive a monthly allowance of 900 Euros, paid on their Italian bank account, on a quarterly basis.

Depending on the sort of study, the duration of the scholarship can be either six or nine months. Only applicants who demonstrate satisfactory academic improvement are eligible for renewal.

Only international students who are neither residents of Italy or Italian citizens (IRE)* who possess the necessary academic credentials to enroll in an Italian university or institute may submit an application. For further information, go on this link.

With the sole exception of renewals, candidates for the Master's Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programmes/Italian Language and Culture Courses should not be older than 28 years and 364 days by the deadline.

By the deadline, applicants for research projects with academic supervision should not be older than 40 years and 364 days. 

Language proficiency and abilities 

Applicants must provide a certificate proving their Italian language proficiency in order to register for an Italian-taught course. Within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, level B2 is the minimal requirement (CEFR). Candidates may submit a language certification from a language teacher employed by a university department if they have taken an Italian course at the institution. See other Scholarship here
