University of Algoma 2022–2023 Canada International Scholarships

Scholarships are available from Algoma University to assist with education expenses. The majority of scholarships are given out based on an applicant's academic aptitude and most current academic performance.

Algoma University is one of the top 31% of universities in the world, and it is ranked 75th in Canada and 4316th overall. It also ranks #1205 out of 2629 in North America, #21 out of 24 in Ontario, and #1 in Sault St. Marie. 


A stipend of up to $2,000 per year is given to the student whose father attended Algoma University and who has the highest average in the top six U or M courses available for entry. 

The candidate must register for and maintain 30 credits over the course of two successive terms (fall and winter) of study at Algoma University. This award cannot be increased.

U.S. Embassy Scholarships with Full Funding

Eligibility Requirements: Students in the international class being considered for the following awards must be present on the first day of classes with the temporary resident visa required by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act of Canada.

All students who are required to pay the international difference fee, including university transfers, those pursuing a second degree, those who have graduated from college with a diploma, and those transferring from a college, are eligible for the entrance scholarship.

Under no circumstances may international scholarships be delayed.

The terms and conditions of admission and any scholarships awarded for the specific year must be accepted by the student.

If the student received a C or higher on their O-Level exam, an English language competency test is not necessary. English

Because they are already eligible for a significant tuition discount, Americans are not eligible for these scholarships.

Here’s the 2025–2026 International Undergraduate Scholarships at Algoma University:


🎓 Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships

Chancellor’s Award — CAD 5,000 per year (renewable)

  • Eligibility:

    • First-year international student (undergraduate, full-time — 12 credits/term for Fall/Winter)

    • A+ equivalent average (e.g., 90–100% top grades in your country's system)

    • Must hold a student visa by the first day of classes and meet English requirements:

      • IELTS ≥ 7.0 (no band < 6.0), TOEFL iBT ≥ 85, Duolingo 125, CAEL 185, PTE 65.

    • Ontario high school: 90–100% in top 6 U/M courses.

  • Renewal Conditions:

    • Maintain ≥ 80% average in Fall/Winter (no failures) and 12 credits/term

    • Renewable for up to 3 additional years.


President’s Award — CAD 2,500 (one-time)

  • Eligibility:

    • Full-time first-year international undergraduate

    • Strong academic record:


Dean’s Award — CAD 1,000 (one-time)

  • Eligibility:

    • B+ equivalent academic average

    • Full-time first-year undergraduate


Award of Excellence — CAD 500 (one-time)

  • Eligibility:

    • B equivalent average

    • Full-time first-year undergraduate


A‑Level & International Baccalaureate (IB) Equivalents

For UK-style A-levels:

  • A* + A → $5,000 (Chancellor’s, renewable)

  • A + A → $2,500 (President’s)

  • B + A or B + B → $1,000 (Dean’s)

  • B + C or C + C → $500 (Excellence).

For IB:

  • 34+ points → $5,000

  • 31–33 → $2,500

  • 28–30 → $1,000

  • IB not required for English if diploma earned.


🛠 Other Awards

Computer Science Award

  • Up to CAD 2,500/year for CS degrees (up to $7,500–10,000 total) for students entering Fall 2024/Winter 2025.


📄 Important Details

  • Scholarships are automatic upon admission—no separate application needed.

  • Must accept offer and scholarship for the specific academic year—cannot defer.

  • Must enroll Fall and Winter consecutive terms; Winter/Spring starters may receive award following academic year.

  • Not available for American students (they have tuition discount).


🧑‍🎓 Graduate Scholarships (Master’s Level)

  • Master’s Award of Excellence: Up to CAD 5,000 total ($2,500 per term) for high-achieving incoming graduate students; renewable and requires meeting admission and scholarship deadlines:

    • Spring intake: Jan 1

    • Fall intake: May 1

    • Winter intake: Sept 1 

Note: graduate funding is separate from undergraduate international scholarships.
