The scholarship seeks to give aspiring students the resources they need to continue their education in the sector of their choice. Each year, a group of motivated and ambitious students is chosen who they believe will take advantage of the opportunity, approach their academic and professional goals with great zeal, and put in the deliberate effort needed to achieve their goals.
Additionally, the bursaries include capped allowances for meals, transportation, and study aid. Depending on available funding, the City may additionally provide a capped dwelling allowance in some circumstances where a need has been established
Eligibility Requirements
The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible for the City of Cape Town External Bursaries 2025–2026
prerequisites: possess a 70% average score on the June Grade 12/Matric exams, with the final awarding of the bursary contingent on final results; be under 30 years old; be in financial need (unable to attend university without a bursary); and have been provisionally accepted into an undergraduate program at a South African university.

The applications must be submitted by Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Late applications won't be taken into account. Application materials must include test results, evidence of acceptance to an accredited school (a student number), and any additional supporting documentation.
Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a recognized tertiary institution and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the fields of study designated by the City of Cape Town as having a shortage of skilled workers.
